Cut-Glue-Wax & Spray- That's it, that's encaustic collage. Come to this fantastic Playshop with me, and enjoy a lovely day of creative process and go home with a stack of your creative products. No experience is needed just a willingness to experiment and play. I have an amazing stash of art papers and embellishment and all the wax and tools at the ready. To start the day I'll demonstrate the techniques in making a collage and applying the encaustic wax encasement. Then I'll offer guidance as you create small wax encased collages on wood panels. By the end of the day you'll carry home 3-4 small art pieces to share and enjoy. For those of you who have taken Encaustic Collage classes with me before I have added some new techniques using spray paint and developed some new embellishment ideas.

Stencil Appliqué – Mini quilt workshop
June 18, 2016 10am-4pm
Bolt Fabric
Cloverdale, CA
Email Bolt Fabric to sign up

My background is in graphic design and fiber arts. I combine those two loves in this workshop. You will choose from a large selection of my designs to create 2-4 fuse appliqué blocks. I have bold images of coffee mugs, teacups, chairs, cows, fish, bras and more for you to choose from. In the morning you will create your image blocks using fusible webbing, printed fabric and acrylic paint and my stencils. In the afternoon you will create boarders with coordinating fabrics and we will get started with some free motion quilting as well. You can choose to use your blocks to make a small art quilt to hang or placemats or table runner. There is a small materials list of fabric etc – all the materials you need are available at Bolt Fabric in Cloverdale. - I will provide the stencil patterns, acrylic paint and lot's and lot's of examples to inspire and plenty of encouragement and expertise so you can succeed and have a wonderful creative day.

Challenge yourself in two media at a workshop combining the visual and poetic arts. Over the course of this two-day intensive, we will work back and forth between building a poem and creating an art book. I will guide you through the process of creating a multipage collage accordion book and Poet Laurie Glover will lead you through the process of writing a multi-stanza, repeating-form poem called a pantoum that can become part of your book. We have designed a series of steps through which non-artists and non-writers can stimulate their creativity in one area by linking it with another. We will use poetry writing exercises to inspire your creation of a book and use the choices you make in creating that book to further your poetry writing. For examples of the kind of book we mean, take a look at Lisa's website, Participants can stay over night on Saturday or attend the workshop only.

This workshop is designed to lead artists at all levels into new ways of art journaling. We will look at everyday objects and the world around us in fresh ways, incorporating traditional sketching and painting with design, color and word. We will dive deep into an object translating form, line, pattern, negative and positive space using pencil, paint, and pen as well as self made rubber stamps, stenciling, photographs, and collage techniques, I'll even add spray paint to the art journaling tool kit! This workshop will give new inspiration to people who already have a regular art journaling practice or launch new and lapsed journalist into a rewarding practice. Art journaling isn't about creating art to sell or even share if you don't want. It's about taking the time to observe the world around you deeply and in so doing gain appreciation and renewed wonder. As the saying goes we will "stop to pick the daisies" and in this case draw, paint, and print them in your art journal, too!

Don't see the date or the class you can take?  I would love to create a play-shop for you. Private and small group classes can be arranged for you and your friends. I teach iPad drawing/painting, collage, art journalling, print making, personal altars, mandalas, art meditations, collage book making, stitch, stencil and stamp classes. Contact me and we can design a class to suit you.
