Art Workshops in my studio at The Bishop's Ranch

Watercolor Painting Without the Water: Introduction to iPad painting using the Art Rage app
9/28/14, 1-4:30 pm - $45 [sign up and pay with PayPal]

This class will cover drawing techniques on your iPad using the Art Rage app. I'll cover basic techniques of brush strokes, layering, and using a photo as the base for your art. I will set up a simple still life; you will take a photo and use that photo as the base of your drawing. So if you are someone who says, "I can't draw," don't worry, the photo is there to "trace" and set the stage for the layers you add. I will also share different ways of printing your drawing and ideas for taking your art out of the tablet and into the world through art journaling, plein aire painting, still life and more.
Students Should Bring: an iPad loaded with the Art Rage app, a stylus is helpful your finger fine works too!

Encaustic Collage: Odes to Extra-Ordinary Objects.
10/12/14 – 10-4 pm - $75 [sign up and pay with PayPal]

This workshop invites participants to make a visual ode to an ordinary or extraordinary object or person. You will create small collage pieces on wood using art papers, old maps, photos and other ephemera. The collage is then covered with hot encaustic medium (a mixture of resin and beeswax). Class includes demos of techniques and time to play and experiment. All materials are included and no prior experience is needed.
Students Can Bring: I will provide everything you need to create several odes. I have old books and photos and all sorts of visual inspiration, however if you would like to bring images, post-cards, old photos to incorporate feel free. Bring a sack lunch making art makes you hungry!

Creativity Bound: Make a poem, make a book
2/21/15, 9am-6pm - $175 [sign up and pay with PayPal]

Challenge yourself to create in two media at a workshop combining the visual and poetic arts. Over the course of this one-day intensive, we will work back and forth between building a poem and creating an art book. I have developed this workshop with Laurie Glover, published poet and professor of writing at UC Davis. We have designed a series of steps through which non-artists and non-writers can stimulate their creativity in one area by linking it with another. We will use poetry writing exercises to inspire your creation of a book and use the choices you make in creating that book to further your poetry writing. The guided workshop will run from 9 am to 6 pm Saturday; additional open studio time will be available on Sunday. Participants can stay one or two nights or attend the workshop only.
