Bird Box Fabric Collage: Art & Soul Portland

Lisa will provide a variety of backyard bird images printed on cotton selected randomly for you. She will also share her process of creating these images and how she prints them on her home printer for you to try later. Along with bird of your choice she’ll share hand printed and dyed fabric and paper ephemera to include in your fabric collage. After a demonstration of design and composition each participant will begin creating their own Bird Box art quilt. Stitch can be added by machine or hand stitch or a combination of both. By the end of the day everyone will have a sweet 11×14” art quilt featuring a back yard bird ready to pop into a shadow box frame or finish any way you choose.

Materials Fee $25 paid at beginning of class includes:

• One printed fabric bird pre-fuse to felt (you choose your bird from large
selection available)
• 11×14 inch pre-fused felt backing
• Fabric and paper ephemera for embellishment
• plus oodles of Bird Box examples to inspire.
Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

• Small pieces of fabric to use in collage. Batiks and hand dyed and printed fabrics are particularly nice. You will need at least one piece that is 11×14 inches to use as background – blues, tans and greens are a good choice.
• Rotary cutter, small cutting matt and ruler (I will have some of each to share)
• 1/2 yard Misty fuse or Wonder Under
• A pair of fabric scissors
• Optional Embroidery floss or pearl cotton of your choice, needles for hand stitch if you want to add textural embellishment or prefer hand stitch over machine.

• NOTE: sewing machines to share will be available if you prefer your own sewing machine please bring extension cord and thread
