DESCRIPTION:This will be a day of creative play. You’ll get to experiment with fabric dye pastels on fun bird and word block print fabric supplied in your kit. Then you can finally use all those little scraps of fabric you’ve been saving to create up to eight small fabric collages to string together as flags. We will begin with whole group demo on using fabric pastels to colorize your block print panels followed by stitch tips\, and design and composition basics. There will be plenty of “studio time” to get busy with your flags with time to share and answer questions sprinkled in. Each participant will make a string of Wing & A Prayer Flags to grace a special space indoors or out\, perfect for a garden or patio space! \nMaterials Fee $25 paid at beginning of class includes: \n• Fabric scraps and bits for the group to share in designing each flag\n• 1 – ball of white pearl cotton thread size 8\n• 1 – chenille needle size #24\n• Set of 15 pentel fabric dye sticks \nSupplies Needed  to bring for Class: \n• 8 or more cut rectangles fabric cut to 5×7 or larger depending on what size flag panel you prefer. My examples are 5×7 inch so anything that size or bigger works great\, solids\, prints\, batiks…. whatever you have in your scraps –\n• 3 yards double fold bias tape (1 pack) any color\n• Iron and pad or board to iron on\n• pins and or glue stick.\n• scissors or rotary cutter (pinking shears are nice but not required)\n• Optional: I provide a ball of white pearl cotton if you have more pearl or embroidery thread in colors of your choice\, feel free to bring that along\nNOTE: These little flags can be constructed using sewing machine or hand stitch\, or a combo of both. There will be sewing machines available to share – if you prefer to have your own sewing machine feel free to bring – bring an extension cord too.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here for a printable page

SUMMARY:Photo to Fabric - Design in the Palm of Your Hand

SUMMARY:Lenten Reflection Day - In Person
DESCRIPTION:Lenten Reflection Day is designed to take time to be mindful of what Lent calls us to do and who to be. We will discuss and tease out the layers of the three traditional practices taken up during Lent  (prayer\, fasting\, and almsgiving). Join me in a day of mixed modality mindfulness hosted by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. We will reflect on the three Lenten practices and as Pope Francis suggests find ways to make that practice concrete. Each person will make a set of Lenten cards to count the days of Lent. Like it’s familiar counting cousin\, the Advent calendar\, these cards will mark the days of Lent. Instead of the candy or treats of the Advent calendar your Lenten cards will challenge you each day to make the practice of Lent concrete. The day will also include mixed modality prayer and meditation and community kinship.\nThis workshop is for all – no art experience necessary\, just an open heart and mind! From the ancient traditions of Hindu home shrines to Eastern Orthodox icons to Dia de los Muertos altars of Mexico\, people through time and place and religion have created structures and images to remember and honor those we love and revere. To create a piece of art dedicated to a person or idea is to take the time to absorb\, observe and remember – to put that person or concept foremost in our hearts and minds.\nJoin\, artist and educator\, Lisa Thorpe for an afternoon of art and meditation hosted by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. You can choose a saint to honor from images provide or bring a photo of a loved one or personal hero you want to celebrate. Each participant will create a collage “Icon” on a wooden plaque using decorative papers\, copper and tin. No art experience needed\, appropriate for adults and teens. SUMMARY:Fabric Fusion: Fold\, Cut and Stitch
DESCRIPTION:3/1/20 – 10 am-4:30pm\nSonoma Community Center\n276 East Napa Street\, Sonoma CA\n$114\n$103 members \nInspired by cut paper snowflakes\, beautiful Mexican Papel Picado and Hawaiian applique patterns these cut and fuse fabric squares are easy to do\, and just like snow flakes no two are alike! You can make as many fused squares as you like to use in a quilted panel\, table runner or pillow front. In the first session I will teach you how to create a cut paper pattern to transfer to fabric and fuse to backing square. In the second session you will begin to embellish your cut fabric squares with simple embroidery stitches that I will teach (or review as the case may be). Must be a confident begining machine stitcher to participate. Class is for making the quilt squares with embroidery only.
