Lisa Thorpe

It’s my Birthday today. Thanks for coming along for the ride!

Today is my 5oth birthday.  And while for the most part I have been approaching the “Big Day” with a shrug, now that it’s here I find myself a jumble of mixed feelings.  Mostly I am grateful for all the people in my life who have been a part of my journey up till now, yes including you gentle reader.  I have been blessed with wonderful family and friends and talents that I have had the amazing opportunity to explore and share. But still there is a tiny catch in my throat; a pressure behind the eyes that I can’t deny took me by surprise this morning.  Something has surely passed and gone. And with that passing something new is coming, a new phase of my life has begun.  My son turned sixteen last month and got his drivers license, he is beginning his big step into independence entering a new phase. Believe me this is a thing I am very happy about, but it does mark a shift, a focus change for me, a looking inward and reaching outward.  A tiny tug of war in my chest, that has my heart racing with both anticipation and fear.  I am at the threshold today, take my hand, I share it with you.

These two pieces are Chin Colle Monoprints.  I recently  got a large die cutting machine.  The roller on the die cutter works like the roller on a printing press.  I am thrilled to have a way to make prints at home.  In the past I have had to go to a print studio to make prints, you can expect to see more monoprints in the future.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Life at 50 is great. It is certainly full of many transitions but I find for the first time I am able to fully explore them.
This is the week for celebrations. I have 12 oft English family arriving tomorrow including my sister who I also about to celebrate her 50th . I’ll toast you also when we raise our glasses tomorrow!
Of course there will also be plenty of toasting and pulling of the heart strings on Saturday at our ‘baby’s’ wedding .
Enjoy 50 and all it’s blessings, the joyful ones and the challenging ones.

Each day we look up on the wall to see one of your very early paintings. The “intelectual phase”. It is a reminder that you have been and still are in our lives. Your art has become so joyous and full of life, it obviously reflects your beautiful life. We are so please to follow you. Happy birthday. It’s a great age to be! Love, Ted and Joan
