Botanical Printing & Pattern – Live Virtual Event

July 23, 2023
11:00 am
- 2:00 pm

July 23, 2023 1-4pm Central (class will be recorded and available for 3 weeks beyond class date)

This class gives you a great practice playing with your gel plate to create beautiful prints. You will make amazing prints on fabric or paper. You’ll use your fabric prints in art quilts and garment embellishment, and your prints of paper in mixed media collage, art journaling and handmade cards. This is a wonderful art form that I know you love once you get rolling and I’ve worked out all the kinks to make your printing session a success.

The class is 3 hours and covers using botanicals to create a mask and a ghost print, creating texture with everyday objects like veggi bags, bubble wrap and more. Making your own mask (stencil) with easy to cut Tyvek cloth paper and Duralar clear film. You’ll get to play with 2 and 3 color print possibilities.

What is in the kit I’ll mail to you:

  • One stencil designed by me from my texture collection
  • One 4.25×5.5in piece of Tyvek fabric paper for mask making
  • One 4.25×5.5in piece Duralar clear film for mask making
  • Carboard texture tool
  • 6x6in Bubble wrap square
  • Old book pages from language and music books
  • 2 pieces of 7x7in cotton fabric
  • 4 leaves preserved in glycerin

Materials list with links to on-line shopping with be included when you purchase class along with color guide for picking colors you love and work well together for your afternoon of play.

You will need to buy:

  • Gel plate (I will be demo on a 6×6 inch plate – this is a small size and great for experimenting on – if you have a larger one that’s fine you can use it large or mask off 6inch with making tape)
  • 2-4 tubes of Golden OPEN acrylics – I will send color guides to help you choose upon registration
  • Paper and/or fabric cut to 7x7in square – one inch larger than gel plate more details on types of papers/fabric to experiment on.

You can find:

  • Things to make texture with such as veg and fruit knit bags (like oranges often come in)
  • Old lace – especially thick that will leave a texture
  • Toilet paper tube to make circles
  • Q-tip for drawing
  • If you have any stencils around pull those out
