{"id":1682,"date":"2013-07-07T18:44:20","date_gmt":"2013-07-08T01:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lisathorpeartist.wordpress.com\/?p=1682"},"modified":"2013-07-07T18:44:20","modified_gmt":"2013-07-08T01:44:20","slug":"dyi-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lisathorpe.com\/index.php\/2013\/07\/07\/dyi-week\/","title":{"rendered":"DIY week!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1683\" style=\"width: 492px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lisathorpeartist.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/07\/151floors.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1683\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1683\" alt=\"These are the floors we put in ourselves.\" src=\"http:\/\/lisathorpeartist.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/07\/151floors.jpg?resize=482%2C360\" width=\"482\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1683\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is the flooring we put in ourselves.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This week was mostly dedicated to redoing the floors in our little house at the Bishop\u2019s Ranch.\u00a0 When we moved in 17 years ago we had pulled up the carpet and put down plywood and varnished it.\u00a0 It worked well for many years but in the last few years it was starting to shred and splinter.\u00a0 So this summer I was determined to make a change.\u00a0 But budgets are tight at the Ranch (as with all nonprofits) so we knew we would want to do it ourselves to keep the cost down and see if we could find a deal.\u00a0 We found some discounted laminate at Costco, of all places, bought it Sunday and had the floors in by Wednesday!\u00a0 My husband did most of the floor laying while I did the prep of clearing, cleaning and discarding and I was in charge of baseboards.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe how wonderful the new flooring makes the house feel, and the mega sorting of things from every chest, trunk, bookshelf, and cabinet was worth every sore muscle and dust induced sneeze.\u00a0 I felt the rough edges of my psyche smoothed and soothed with every dust bunny in the dustbin and cobwebbed clutter cleared.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1684\" style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lisathorpeartist.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/07\/152-tshirt.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1684\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1684\" alt=\"Fun, easy upcycling of t-shirts bought at Goodwill\" src=\"http:\/\/lisathorpeartist.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/07\/152-tshirt.jpg?resize=360%2C482\" width=\"360\" height=\"482\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1684\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fun, easy upcycling of t-shirts bought at Goodwill<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With this home improvement project completed two days sooner than I had hoped for I got to play with a creative wardrobe improvement I\u2019d been wanting to try.\u00a0 Many of you, I\u2019m sure, know about Pinterest but for those of you that don\u2019t I\u2019ll describe it.\u00a0 Pinterest is an online idea and image scrapbook.\u00a0 If you see a good idea on the internet you \u201cpin it\u201d to a &#8220;bulletin board&#8221;.\u00a0 For example I have a board called artsy\/craftsy where I pin project ideas, I have a board called fabric where I pin quilting ideas\u2026 the nice thing about Pinterest is that it can be completely private.\u00a0 You can pin things just for your own interest or you can have it be public.\u00a0 I like it because I can put good ideas in a virtual file to look at later and try out.\u00a0 That is a long-winded way of telling you that I finally had a chance to play with one of these artsy\/craftsy ideas I pinned along the way.\u00a0 Pictured above are t-shirts that I bought at the Goodwill.\u00a0 I layered them then marked a design with chalk on the top T and then stitched it with red topstitch thread.\u00a0 Then I just cut away the top t-shirt to reveal the bottom one!
